Toxic or a Tonic?
Phew!
What a busy month it has been! I’ve hardly had time to catch my breath, let alone anything else. With that said, I felt like I just had to share this thought with you all.
Let me ask you a question and please be thoughtfully honest. In your friendship circle, are you the friend that the others confide in as they know that their business won’t go anywhere else or are you the last to know something? Are others open with you as they know you will respond positively or are people cagey and walk on eggshells around you, skirting topics like a beginner skater navigating the circumference of a rink?
In short, what I’m asking is: are you toxic or are you a tonic?
We’ve all heard of the word toxic and most of us use it frequently and sometimes inaccurately. According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, toxic is defined as ‘containing or contaminated with a substance capable of injuring or killing a living thing.’ Near synonyms include: ‘harmful, hurtful and malignant.’ Whereas a tonic is defined as ‘having a renewing effect on the state of the body or mind.’ The near synonyms of tonic being, refreshing, strengthening and even therapeutic.’
Having defined toxic and tonic, which one would you, after honest reflection, say you are? More importantly, which one would you desire to be?
Whichever we are, let us use the Scriptures to help us be better than what we currently are. Proverbs 16: 24 expresses ‘Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.’
As you come to the end of the first three months of the year, it’s a good time to take stock of where you are since January – how far you have come on your journey to being a better you?
This is your year of being better, knowing better, doing better and expecting better - of yourself first and foremost; then, of others.
Until next time.
Love & Blessings
